1. Purpose and place of this document
To explain how volunteering works on the hangel platform and the roles of the volunteer, the organisation and hangel in listings, applications, approval, hour records, evaluation and documents. For the Association's own volunteers (people who take part in the Association's own events and work), the rules on selection, orientation, supervision and expenses are in the existing "Volunteer Management Policy" text (contracts: gonullu-yonetimi-politikasi); this document does not replace it but covers the platform side.
2. Scope
Organisations (NGOs, clubs, brands) that publish volunteering listings on hangel, volunteers who apply to them and the International Social Benefit Association as the platform operator.
3. Principles
- Volunteering is free and voluntary. Volunteers are never asked to pay, and volunteering is not used to replace paid work.
- Roles are described clearly. A listing states the task, the place or whether it is online, the time and any age limit.
- Records are accurate. Volunteering hours become final with the organisation's approval; they are not inflated by hand.
- Data only for its purpose. The organisation uses an applicant's data only for that volunteering role.
- hangel is an intermediary. hangel is not a party to the activity relationship between the volunteer and the organisation; the organising body is responsible for running the activity safely (Volunteering Agreement).
4. Roles and responsibilities
- Organisation administrators: publish listings, assess applications, approve hours, evaluate volunteers and issue volunteering experience documents.
- Volunteers: take on the role they applied for, give notice if they cannot attend and evaluate the organisation.
- Super-admins: approve organisation applications and review reports.
5. How it works at hangel today
- Listings and applications: Organisations open a volunteering listing or a shift listing linked to an event. Volunteers apply; the organisation approves or declines.
- Employee-only listings: A brand can open a listing only to its own employees. Only employees connected through the company's invitation, QR code or verified domain can access these listings; someone who selects an employer themselves cannot.
- CV and LinkedIn: Volunteers can upload a CV. The CV is visible only to the organisation that owns the listing the volunteer applied to, as long as the application has not been withdrawn and the volunteer has not turned off the "Organisations I apply to can see my CV" setting; the file opens through a five-minute temporary link and is deleted when the account is deleted.
- Hours and completion: Volunteering hours become final when the organisation confirms with "Complete"; for shift listings, the hours come from the shift length.
- Evaluation: When an activity ends, the volunteer rates the organisation and the organisation rates the volunteer in 10 questions; the volunteer's certificate becomes visible once the organisation's evaluation is complete.
- Documents: An organisation can issue a 9-field "Volunteering Experience Document" with hours calculated from approved records; the document is verified by QR code. It is not an employment contract or a social security service record.
- Reminders: Notifications are sent for upcoming volunteering and shifts.
- Health information: Health information shared for volunteering is processed only with explicit consent.
6. Not yet in place and our goals
- Listings have no separate field for insurance and safety information (Volunteer Safety and Insurance Information).
- There is no on-platform appeal flow for disputes about hours between a volunteer and an organisation; they are handled manually through destek@hangel.org.
- We do not verify whether organisations give volunteers an orientation.
7. How to raise a concern
"Report" in the app (listing or profile) · destek@hangel.org · for serious safeguarding concerns kvkk@hangel.org (subject "Whistleblowing — Confidential").
8. Review
At least once a year.
