1. Purpose
To describe honestly what data hangel shares publicly, what it does not share, and its relationship with open-source software.
2. Scope
hangel's public pages, aggregate figures, open endpoints and feeds; the software hangel uses and produces.
3. Principles
- Personal data is not open data. Data that identifies a person is not shared as open data; aggregate figures are given at a level that cannot be traced back to a person.
- Demo data does not count. Demo data used for presentations is not included in public figures.
- Organisations' public information is open. Event, listing and profile information that organisations publish themselves is visible on public pages.
- Respect for open source. We follow the licences of the open-source components we use and publish their list.
4. Roles and responsibilities
- Technical lead: checks that open endpoints return only public fields.
- Board of Directors: decides on opening any new dataset.
5. How it works at hangel today
- Aggregate figures: A public statistics endpoint returns totals such as numbers of organisations, events and volunteering; it separates out demo data and caches results briefly.
- Open endpoints: There are read endpoints for organisations' public events, volunteering listings and association content.
- Feeds: An RSS feed, a news sitemap and short and long information files for AI search tools (llms.txt) are published.
- Certificate verification: Anyone can verify a certificate code without signing in; only the necessary fields are shown.
- Software components: A list of the open-source components used by the web app (SBOM, CycloneDX) is published at hangel.org/sbom.cdx.json with every release.
- Source code: hangel's source code is not open source; it is kept in a private repository.
6. Not yet in place and our goals
- No licence (for example CC BY 4.0) or data dictionary has been published for open data.
- We do not provide impact data regularly as a downloadable dataset.
- There is no decision to publish any part of the code as open source.
7. How to raise a concern
Errors in open data or personal data concerns: kvkk@hangel.org. Dataset requests: info@hangel.org.
8. Review
At least once a year.
