Idioma del texto

1. Purpose

To state clearly who is responsible for what regarding volunteers' safety, and what hangel does and does not do regarding insurance.

2. Scope

All volunteering activities announced through hangel and the Association's own volunteering activities.

3. Principles

  1. hangel does not insure volunteers. hangel does not take out insurance for volunteering activities of organisations on the platform and does not provide any insurance cover.
  2. Responsibility lies with the organising body. Running the activity in safe conditions, providing necessary training and equipment, first-aid preparedness and, where the nature of the activity requires it, insurance are the responsibility of the organisation running the activity (Volunteering Agreement).
  3. Volunteers decide on an informed basis. Before applying for a risky activity, volunteers can ask the organisation about insurance and safety measures, and they have the right to refuse a task they do not find safe.
  4. The Association's own activities. For the Association's own volunteers, insurance is taken out, or the validity of programme insurance is confirmed, when an activity carries significant risk or a programme (for example the European Solidarity Corps) requires it (existing Volunteer Management Policy).
  5. Age. Under-18s take part only in age-appropriate activities; the emergency blood module is closed to under-18s.

4. Roles and responsibilities

  • Organising body: risk assessment, safety measures, insurance where needed and incident reporting.
  • Volunteer: considers their own health and limits, follows instructions and reports hazards.
  • hangel: publishes this information, reviews reports and can remove listings of organisations with repeated safety problems.

5. How it works at hangel today

  • The Volunteering Agreement states that hangel is not a party to the activity relationship between the volunteer and the organisation and that the organisation is responsible for actually providing safe conditions.
  • Health information related to volunteering is shared only with explicit consent.
  • Volunteering listings and organisation profiles can be reported.

6. Not yet in place and our goals

  • Volunteering listings have no separate field for "insurance yes/no" and "safety measures"; our goal is to ask organisations for this information in the listing.
  • There is no template for a pre-activity safety briefing for volunteers.
  • There is no incident form for recording accidents and injuries during volunteering.

7. How to raise a concern

Unsafe activities: "Report" on the listing in the app or destek@hangel.org. In an emergency, call 112 first.

8. Review

At least once a year.
