1. Purpose

We want volunteering, events and the network of good deeds to be open to everyone, so that no one is left out because of language, disability, age, sex or gender, origin, belief or economic situation. This policy explains how we apply this within the Association and on the platform.

2. Scope

The International Social Benefit Association's recruitment, volunteer admission, management and representation processes; the design, content and community management of the hangel platform; events organised by the Association.

3. Principles

  1. Equal access. The platform's core features are free for users; no one is asked to pay to volunteer.
  2. Multilingualism. We work to make the service usable in everyone's own language.
  3. Accessibility by default. Disabled users are not an afterthought.
  4. No unnecessary data. We do not collect sensitive data in the name of inclusion; disability status and similar information are not asked at registration.
  5. Representation. We take care that different communities are visible in events, images and the choice of speakers.
  6. Zero tolerance for discrimination. Details are in the Anti-Discrimination Policy.

4. Roles and responsibilities

  • Board of Directors: approves this policy and reviews it annually.
  • Product and design team: checks new features for language, accessibility and inclusive wording.
  • Event organisers (the Association): make efforts on venue accessibility and a diverse speaker list.

5. How it works at hangel today

  • 11 languages: The interface is available in Turkish, English, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Spanish, Hausa, German, Hungarian, French and Azerbaijani; Arabic and Persian use a right-to-left layout. Event and listing texts written by organisations can be translated automatically into the visitor's language, and a "show original" option switches back to the original text.
  • Accessibility: Fixes for screen readers, keyboard use, text enlargement and reduced motion are made regularly; a "Simple view" with large buttons and only the core flows is available (Accessibility Policy).
  • No sensitive data: Disability status, religion, ethnic origin or gender are not asked at registration. The gender field in the profile is not mandatory.
  • Age: Young people aged 16–17 can take part in volunteering and events in a limited mode.
  • Project writing: The Write Your Project tool includes a check of how ready a draft is against gender equality criteria (the OECD DAC marker).

6. Not yet in place and our goals

  • We have not run a voluntary, anonymous survey measuring the diversity of users and volunteers; we do not claim diversity we have not measured.
  • There is no target or report on staff and board diversity.
  • Real-world testing with disabled users has not yet been done (it is planned).
  • There is no written inclusive language guide; our goal is to prepare a short one.

7. How to raise a concern

  • Exclusionary content or behaviour on the platform: "Report" in the app (reason "Hate" or "Harassment or bullying").
  • Access barriers: info@hangel.org
  • Allegations of discrimination within the Association: kvkk@hangel.org (subject "Whistleblowing — Confidential").

8. Review

At least once a year.
