1. Purpose

To ensure that no one at hangel or in the Association's activities is discriminated against because of language, race, colour, ethnic origin, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, health status, religion, belief, political opinion, marital status or economic situation.

2. Scope

The International Social Benefit Association's employees, volunteers, management and super-admins; listings, events and communications of organisations active on the platform (NGOs, clubs, brands); all user content on the platform.

3. Principles

  1. Direct and indirect discrimination, incitement to discrimination and discriminatory harassment are prohibited.
  2. A genuine and legitimate requirement of a volunteering role (for example a legal age limit, or age 18 for blood donation) is not discrimination; such a requirement is stated clearly in the listing.
  3. Hate speech, degrading content and calls for violence against a group have no place on the platform.
  4. Reasonable accommodation: reasonable adjustments are made so that disabled people can take part.
  5. Reference framework: Article 10 of the Turkish Constitution, Law No. 6701 on the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

4. Roles and responsibilities

  • Board of Directors: investigates or arranges investigation of internal allegations and decides on sanctions.
  • Super-admins: review reports of discriminatory content on the platform and decide.
  • Organisation administrators: do not set discriminatory conditions in their listings and events.

5. How it works at hangel today

  • Users report discriminatory content with "Report", choosing "Hate" or "Harassment or bullying". The reporter's identity is not revealed to the content owner.
  • If the super-admin decision is "remove", the content stays hidden from the public; if "acceptable", it stays published. Repeated violations can lead to an account being disabled.
  • Users can block a person or an organisation account.
  • Religion, ethnic origin and disability status are not asked at registration, so the platform cannot rank or filter people by these characteristics.

6. Not yet in place and our goals

  • There is no automatic check that detects discriminatory conditions in volunteering listings; detection relies on reports.
  • There is no regular review of whether recommendation and ranking algorithms produce discriminatory results; we aim to start one under the AI Ethics Policy.
  • Annual statistics on discrimination reports are not published.

7. How to raise a concern

  • Platform content: "Report" in the app.
  • About an employee, volunteer or manager of the Association: kvkk@hangel.org (subject "Whistleblowing — Confidential").
  • You retain the right to apply to the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye.

8. Review
